Your Boutique Whitening journey in 3 steps
1. Meet your dentist
Your whitening consultation is with Dr Kishan Modha or Dr Aditi Patel. It takes about 15 minutes, so it can often be done during your routine examination. We check that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to whiten, note your starting shade so you can see your progress, and talk through which gel suits you. If you're happy to go ahead, we then take impressions of your teeth for your trays, which takes about another 15 minutes. You leave with a clear plan and a date to come back for your trays.
Your consultation takes about 15 minutes.
2. Your trays are made
We take impressions of your teeth, and your custom Boutique trays are made for your smile. They are usually ready in about a week.
We'll show you how much gel to use, how to put your trays in, how long to wear them, how to look after them and what to do if your teeth feel sensitive.
3. Whiten at home
You whiten at home with the Boutique gel and wear time your dentist prescribes. Everyone responds differently, so we guide you rather than promise a particular shade or number of days.
About a week after your consultation, you come back to have your trays fitted. Your dentist shows you how to apply the gel and wear your trays, and talks you through simple ways to keep sensitivity to a minimum. Once you've finished whitening, you're welcome to come back for a review, or we can look at your results together at your next regular check-up. If you have any questions along the way, call us on 020 7637 4421 or email office@onlyoneclinic.co.uk.
Choosing your Boutique gel
There isn't one gel that's right for everyone. Some people want the shortest daily wear time; others would rather whiten while they sleep, and some are prone to sensitivity. That's why Boutique gives your dentist a choice.
Boutique By Day
6% hydrogen peroxide. Typical wear time: about 90 minutes a day.
Hydrogen peroxide releases its whitening action relatively quickly, which suits a shorter daytime session.
Might suit you if you'd rather whiten during the day and not sleep in your trays.
Boutique By Night 10%
10% carbamide peroxide (about 3.5% hydrogen peroxide). Typical wear time: 4 to 6 hours, or overnight.
Carbamide peroxide breaks down gradually, releasing hydrogen peroxide over a longer period.
Might suit you if you'd rather whiten overnight, or sensitivity is a concern.
Boutique By Night 16%
16% carbamide peroxide (about 5.7% hydrogen peroxide). Typical wear time: 4 to 6 hours, or overnight.
The same gradual release, at a higher strength.
Might suit you if you'd rather whiten overnight and your dentist recommends a stronger carbamide gel.
Boutique Hybrid Pro
4.25% hydrogen peroxide with 4.25% carbamide peroxide. Typical wear time: about 3 to 4 hours, or overnight as directed.
Combines the faster action of hydrogen peroxide with the gradual release of carbamide peroxide.
Might suit you if your dentist recommends a dual-action approach.
| Gel | Active ingredient | Typical wear time | Release |
|---|---|---|---|
| By Day | 6% hydrogen peroxide | About 90 minutes | Faster |
| By Night 10% | 10% carbamide peroxide | 4 to 6 hours, or overnight | Gradual |
| By Night 16% | 16% carbamide peroxide | 4 to 6 hours, or overnight | Gradual |
| Hybrid Pro | 4.25% hydrogen + 4.25% carbamide peroxide | About 3 to 4 hours, or overnight | Fast and sustained |
Not sure which one is for you?
You don't need to be. Your dentist will look at your teeth, any sensitivity, your starting shade and your routine before recommending the Boutique gel that's right for you.
Why custom trays matter
Whitening gel needs to stay where it should, against your teeth. That's why Boutique Whitening uses trays made for your teeth from impressions, not a one-size-fits-all mouthguard.
- Made to fit you: the trays closely follow the shape of your own teeth.
- Semi-rigid material: they adapt closely and stay stable while you whiten.
- Non-scalloped edges: they help keep the tray steady and saliva out.
- Dosing dots: they show where to place the gel and how much to use, so you use no more than you need.
Why choose Only One Clinic for Boutique Whitening?
A patient who whitened with us recently told me the whole process was straightforward, and that the results were noticeable and have given him a more confident smile. That is what I hope for with every whitening patient: a natural-looking change that makes you want to smile more.
Your whitening is planned and supervised by an experienced dentist from start to finish. Your consultation is free and can often be done during your routine check-up, so you don't need an extra visit just to get started. Your trays are ready in about a week, and you're welcome to come back for a review once you've finished.

BDS (Lond) MFDS RCS (Ed), GDC No. 80987
I trained at the Royal London and St Bartholomew's School of Medicine and Dentistry, qualifying in 2002. I went back to the Royal London Hospital as a Senior House Officer in Restorative Dentistry, and later became a Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Most of my work since has been restorative and aesthetic dentistry, from crowns and bridges to bespoke veneers. At Only One Clinic I can give every patient the time and attention that good aesthetic work needs.
I have been offering teeth whitening for around 20 years. What I enjoy most is how straightforward it is for patients: a short consultation, trays made to fit your teeth, and a change you can see in the mirror within a few weeks.

Why teeth change colour, and how whitening works
Teeth naturally change colour over time. Coffee, tea, red wine, smoking and simply getting older can all make teeth look darker or more stained. Some staining sits on the surface, and a professional clean can remove much of it. Some is within the tooth itself: the natural colour of the dentine beneath your enamel, ageing, past injury, certain medicines and long-standing staining.
Professional whitening can reach both. The peroxide in Boutique gels moves through microscopic spaces in the enamel and breaks down the coloured molecules that make teeth look darker. Your teeth then reflect light differently and look lighter, without changing their shape.
Whitening in five stages
- A small, measured amount of Boutique gel is placed in your custom tray.
- The gel's hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide or both become active and release reactive oxygen.
- These small molecules move through the enamel towards the dentine beneath, where some discolouration sits.
- They react with the larger coloured molecules (oxidation), changing how those molecules absorb light.
- With less colour visible, your natural teeth look lighter.
What whitening doesn't do
Professional whitening doesn't file, grind or remove healthy enamel, and it doesn't paint your teeth white. It changes how the colour within your own teeth looks. There's no single "correct" shade: the aim is a smile you're happy with.

About Boutique Whitening
How does teeth whitening work?
Professional whitening uses peroxide-based gels. The peroxide moves through the tooth and reacts with coloured molecules (oxidation). As these are broken down or altered, they reflect light differently and the tooth looks lighter.
Can I have my teeth whitened at a beauty salon?
In the UK, tooth whitening with regulated peroxide gels counts as dentistry and is restricted by law. Professional whitening should follow an assessment by a dentist.
What's the difference between Boutique By Day and Boutique By Night?
Boutique By Day uses 6% hydrogen peroxide and is worn for about 90 minutes a day. Boutique By Night uses carbamide peroxide, which releases peroxide more gradually and suits longer or overnight wear.
Which Boutique gel is best?
There isn't one best gel for everyone. Your dentist considers your teeth, any sensitivity, your routine and the result you'd like before recommending one.
How quickly will I see a difference?
Some people notice a change quite quickly; others take longer. Your starting shade, the type of staining, your gel and how your teeth respond all play a part.
How long does teeth whitening last?
Whitening isn't permanent. Teeth slowly pick up colour again through food, drink, lifestyle and ageing, which is why many people top up from time to time.
Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Professional whitening is an established dental treatment. Your dentist checks your teeth and gums first, decides whether whitening is right for you and prescribes your treatment.
Does whitening cause sensitivity?
Some people have temporary sensitivity while whitening. It doesn't mean the tooth has been damaged, and your dentist can adjust your treatment if it happens.
Can I drink coffee while whitening?
Coffee stains teeth, but you don't have to give it up completely. Cutting back on strongly coloured drinks helps you keep your result.
Can crowns be whitened?
No. Whitening doesn't change the colour of an existing crown the way it changes natural teeth.
Should I whiten before composite bonding?
Often, yes. Whitening first means the bonding can be matched to your new, lighter shade. Your dentist will plan the order and timing.
